VATAN PROTOCOL PAVILLION
The protocol pavillion designed for the ceremony to be held on the 97th anniversary of the Turkish Republic reminds the holy Turkish Flag with its dynamic and fluctuating structure.
The most important input of the design is the feeling of rhythm. This feeling begins to occur with equidistant rows of trees and traffic lighting poles along the Vatan Boulevard. Another feature that reveals the sense of rhythm is the rhythm created by the disciplined and simultaneous movements of the military parades in the ceremonies held during the Republic Day. In this context, the protocol canopy design consists of the common denominator of both the place and the subject, with the above sense of rhythm.
The requirement to design and construct the structure in a very short time, the fact that it had to be disassembled and re-established after a year, and the fact that it is not possible to make excavations and foundations in the historical peninsula were the basic inputs of the design. While a dynamic and accurate shape is obtained by rotating a single load bearing steel profile repeatedly and 1 degree in an extremely modular setup, the method was able to be manufactured and assembled quickly.

DESIGN OF THE PROTOCOL PAVILLION
As the dynamic flag structure fluctuates along the boulevard, the feeling of rhythm surrounds the passengers and the visitors. This rhythm is inspired by the disciplined movements of the military parades in the ceremonies held during the Republic Day. The equidistant rows of the trees and traffic lighting poles along the boulevard strengthens the harmony of the proposed canopy design with its surroundings.
One of the most important features of the structure is that a mass of 80 tons is supported without foundation and with 5 meters of cantilever beams on both sides. This is high engineering at its simplest. Another important feature is the 10 meter length of the aluminum plates covering the beams. This structure is the first example in Turkey where the aluminum plates of this size were bent and made ready for direct installation. The colors of the steel beams and the aluminum plates are code “red”, which is the official color of the Turkish Flag in the Turkish Standards Institute.
The canopy, with its building technique, color and mass stands out as a giant landmark for all kinds of events to be held in special organizations.
