SALACAK COAST URBAN DESIGN
The sunset view behing the historical peninsula and the Maiden's Tower creates a sudden and unexpected spirituality making us feel that we are experiencing the extension of a historical continuity. Perhaps this is the reason the elements that spirituality has spread to daily life are so compotent and qualified in Üsküdar. A place where countless people have missed the ferry to listen to the call to prayer.
It is a museum with its spectators and announcements, and for this reason, it is a place to pass by. It acts just like the circulation areas we travel to see the artifacts in museums. This coast, which has been the corridor of the Bosphorus and the Historical Peninsula, is essentially an extremely unique piece of geography.
Two worlds pass at this unique point where the Bosphorus ends and the Marmara begins. Two cultures, two climates, two histories, two contexts, in summary, transition into two meanings. Here, all the memories accumulated throughout the history of the Bosphorus are sent off in Marmara. In Üsküdar, spirituality, tranquility, the opposite shore, and a scale of belonging that catch us tightly, suddenly leave its place to the 21st-century industrial world with an endless blue, port, machine aesthetics. The most interesting thing is that everything changes all at once and at a specific point.
We built our project on the crossings of two meanings on the coast.

TWO MEANINGS | ONE SHORE
Bosphorus has an important place in the description of the identity of Istanbul, which is one of the original cities of the world with its natural, cultural and historical values. Salacak coast extends from the beginning of the Bosphorus from the Marmara direction, to the south of the Anatolian side, between Üsküdar and Harem city centers. It can be eye-opening to look at the changing / transforming positions of the urban foci (Üsküdar and Harem) at both ends within the urban macroform and network of relations in order to understand the present day of Salacak coast, to identify its problems correctly and to reveal their potential.

Two Meanings - One Shore
MATERIAL – COLOR PALETTE
“The dominant flora of the gardens made the shores of the Bosphorus different from other water cities such as Lisbon and Venice. The Hıdrellez festival in early May was a celebration of flowers and green. Seeds, shoots, and flowers were sold in the courtyards. Paradise gardens with flower beds, terraced gardens shaded by hanging pergolas, orchard, sunken gardens obtained by digging the ground for keeping it cool in summer ...“

FOCAL POINTS
We have worried about the height of the pebble you feel where you step with the spectacle that changes every moment.
On the Üsküdar side, we paid attention to the concept of unity/monotheism, that each unit added to each other constitutes the whole. While doing this, it touches the memories of the previous generations. While trying to balance the dignified sequences on the Üsküdar side, we tried to make Salacak not a place to go through, but a place where a different opportunity is noticed at every point, and what the waterfront cities of the contemporary world described by the port-side context has presented to the citizens.

The spirituality that catches us tightly in Üsküdar is replaced suddenly by the industrial world of the 21st century
